Fern Payette Yackeyonny

Memorial Service for Fern Payette Yackeyonny was at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024 at Brown Indian Church, Walters, with Rev. Kent Simpson officiating. Burial is under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home.

Lois Fern Yackeyonny was born to Birdie Ruth (Rupe) and Clair Ambrose Payette Jan. 31, 1935 in Walters, and departed this life in Temple, on Jan. 28, 2024 at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and 28 days.

Fern grew up in Walters, Sterling, Randlett and Central High. She married Leslie Colberg and to the union eight children were born. She later married Pete Walls and to the union five children were born. On March 14, 2003 she married Billy Joe Yackeyonny in Lawton, making their home at Walters. She loved crocheting, crafting and working in her garden. She also loved Bible study and playing the piano for her churches.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Yackeyonny; parents, Birdie and Clair Payette; two sons: James Scott Colberg and Duane Clair Colberg; a sister, Bessie Ruth Payette Sullivan; three brothers: Jessie Clair Payette, Richard Payette and David Pram Payette.

Survivors include 11 children and spouses: Katherine Colberg Kuntz and Michael of Sterling, Marlin Sullivan and Carrie of Marlow, Jamey Hamilton and Robert of Norman, Kevin Sullivan of Duncan, Karlene Colberg of Edmond, Kim Barrington and Rick of Marlow, Kyle Richardson of Guthrie,John Walls and Tiffany of Scotland, TX, Jane Stitt and Michael of Scotland, UK, Donnie Payette and Rae of Whitesboro, TX, and Marsha Smith and Eddie of Petrolia, TX; a sister, Rebecca Payette of Walters; a sister-in-law, Janice Payette of Fletcher; a brother-in-law, Bob Sullivan of Marlow; 23 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
