John Alfred 'Jay' Cox Sr.

John Alfred “Jay” Cox, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and devoted follower of Jesus Christ, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on Dec. 3, 1931, in Geronimo, Jay was the son of the late Alfred and Teresa E. Cox.

Jay’s life was a beautiful expression of humility, kindness, generosity, and a Christ-like example. He was unwaveringly committed to his family, community, and God’s infallible Word. During his high school years, Jay played basketball for the Geronimo High School Bluejays. After graduating from high school, he continued his family’s trade of wheat farming. In 1959, Jay began a 45-year career with Allstate Insurance Company. Upon retirement, he developed subdivisions and built homes in east Lawton.

In 1952, Jay married the love of his life, Rosemary Green. Their 73-year marriage was a testament to their deep love for one another. Together, they raised four children.

Jay was passionate about teaching his family and others the importance of knowing Jesus and God’s Word. He was an active member of Lawton First Assembly for 34 years, serving in various roles, including deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Jay cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren more than anything. He was known for his sense of humor and his remarkable ability to achieve anything he set his mind to.

Jay is survived by his beloved wife, Rosemary; children Mary Cox-Berry, John Cox Jr., Beverly Regan, and Judy Mosesman; grandchildren: Rob Bigham, Charity Marivani, Jay Ghosn, Brooke Stevenson, John Mosesman, Jonathan Mosesman, and Jaymee Erway; great-grandchildren: Ella Rose, Carter, Graham, Aria, Evelyn, Olivia, and Kairi; his baby sister Nancy Day, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Jared Cox, his parents, three brothers, and one sister.

A celebration of Jay’s life and faith will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Lawton First Assembly, 2201 NW 82nd Street, Lawton.

Jay’s life was a testament to the power of love, faith in God, service to others, and hard work. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
