Edna Marie Pahcheka Poafpybitty

Our dear mother, sister, grandma, elder and friend, Edna Marie Pahcheka Poafpybitty passed away in her sleep the night of April 5th 2025 at the age of 83 years and 3 days. She was born April 2nd 1942 at Lawton PHS (IHS).
She attended school in Cache and took part in softball, basketball, and other school activities. She was a graduate of 1960 class. Edna married Robert Poafpybitty at the Comanche Reformed Church (Yellow Mission) in 1960 until his passing in 1992. She was a full-blooded member of the Comanche Nation and served her nation proudly on the Comanche Nation Election Board for several years. She was also the great-granddaughter of the Comanche Chief Quanah Parker.
Edna was also a member of Post Oak Church in Indiahoma, OK and the Dallas Indian United Methodist Church, actively participating on various boards and committees. When she was physically unable to get around and did not want to miss a sermon, she turned to the Post Oak’s online broadcast.
Edna was raised in Cache, OK. With the help of the Indian Relocation Program, she moved to Washington DC and then to Dallas, Texas where she worked as an Executive Administrative Assistant to a federal judge for about 34 years and 17 of those years. She also worked at the main Dallas Public Library that was located downtown.
She had so many interests and great pleasures in watching those Dallas Cowboys, the NBA as well as boxing. She was adopted by so many sheltered kittens and alley cats and loved each one as they were her own children. She was well known as the “Great Organizer for all the family functions and holiday events. Each and everyone called her “Grandma Edna”, a widely used term of endearment, as her loved shined through each family member, each friend and especially those babies and the young children.
She is preceded in death by her beloved first son Byron Poafpybitty. She always spoke of being good now, so she could go to heaven and be with Byron again. Also preceding her in death was her sister Helen Francis; and brothers Bobby and Paul David.
Her survivors include two sons; Darryl Poafpybitty and Robert Poafpybitty Jr.; two sisters Virgie Kassanavoid and Vivian Holder; brother Deyo Pahcheka and a host of many relatives and friends.
Prayer Service was held 6 p.m. Thursday, April 10th, 2025 at the Comanche Nation Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Service was held 10 a.m. Friday, April 11th, 2025 at Post Oak Church.
Burial followed at Post Oak Cemetery under the direction of the Comanche Nation Funeral Home.
Donations can be made to the University of New Mexico Hospitals Native American Health Services. They focus on culturally appropriate responses to engage with Native American cancer patients and survivors.
