Lavena Tahdooahnippah Honea

Funeral Service for Lavena Tahdooahnippah Honea will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025 at Post Oak Church, Indiahoma with Pastor Jim Inkner officiating. Prayer service will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Comanche Nation Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Post Oak cemetery under the direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home.
Mrs. Honea went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 1st, 2025 at her home in Cache, Okla., with her loving family by her side. Lavena was born October 20th, 1934 at the Kiowa Indian Hospital in Lawton, Okla. to Day and Lela (Yellowwolf) Tahdooahnippah. She grew up in Cache, Okla. and attended Cache Public Schools and was a graduate of the 1952 class. She often spoke of her upbringing saying, “she was raised by her parents and grandparents Oscar and Wyma Yellowwolf who all lived in the family home.”
When Lavena received her LPN license, she dedicated 36 years as a nurse to the Lawton Indian Health Services, Choctaw Nation Healthcare Center and Southside Hospital, Oklahoma City, OK. On May 24th, 1957 she married the love of her life, Benjamin L. Honea in McAlester, Okla. They made their home in Cache, Okla., and devoted their lives to each other for the next 61 years.
Lavena adored spending time with her family whether it was camping, RVing, reading or simply just watching TV. She also enjoyed supporting her husband in his different activities with the Shriners International, Masons and different church activities. She was a lifelong member of the Post Oak Mennonite Brethren Church.
Lavena is survived by her children: Benjamin Day Honea, Cache, Okla..; Patricia Ann Honea of the home; Six grandchildren: Brandon Bear, Nathan & Julia Bear, Cache, Okla.; Stephanie & Willie Brown and Benjamin(Michaela)Honea; Seven great grandchildren: Caleb Smith, Gabrielle and Branden Sherman, Haley Brown, River, Waylon Honea, Brayden, Brooklyn Bear; Two great- great grandchildren: Jazmin Smith and Giovanni Sherman; Siblings: Patterson and Charlene Tahdooahnippah, Marlene Cooper and many other family members and friends.
Lavena is preceded in death by her husband Benjamin L. Honea; her daughter, Elizabeth Bear; granddaughter Christine Rene Smith; her parents: Day and Lela Tahdooahnippah; siblings and spouses: Leroy & Sheila Tahdooahnippah, Videll & Louella Tahdooahnippah, Ferrill Codopony, Joyce & Alex Matthews, Albert Pahdocony, Vincent Tahdooahnippah; Brother-in-law: Benny Cooper; Nephews: Gregory Tahdooahnippah; Grandparents: Oscar & Wyma Yellowwolf, Tahdooahnippah & Towaucy.
